Joel Berlatsky, PhD

Joel Berlatsky, PhD, from Kingston, Pennsylvania, passed away at the age of 82. Born in Chicago, Berlatsky grew up in Queens. He received a bachelor’s degree from Carleton College (Minnesota), a master’s degree in teaching from Brown University and a doctorate in history from Northwestern University.

For the next 37 years, he taught history at Wilkes University. While at Wilkes, he served a term as departmental chair, sat on many committees and, for 18 years, he was faculty athletic representative. Berlatsky was the author of several journal articles, contributed to three collections of articles and co-edited a document for the Royal Historical Society’s Camden Society Series. A member of the North American Conference of British Studies, he was also a lifetime member of the American Historical Society.
